- Review:
-
- This site contains a lengthy text which discusses the
- internet in the educational environment, specifically in elementary
- and secondary schools. The text was produced in February of 1994 by
- the Internet School Networking Group and it documents the most
- commonly asked questions about the internet by those in the primary
- and secondary school communities. This text answers important
- questions like,"what is the internet, and what are the benefits of
- having it in the classroom?". It also answers questions about
- implications and costs of connecting, personnel and training needs,
- and security and ethics on the Net. As a bonus, the text includes
- a comprehensive list of suggested readings, references, and contacts
- which may help to answer these, or other questions educators may have
- about the internet. It also lists specific resource sites that are
- useful in the classroom, and examples of school projects involving
- the net.
-
- Conclusions: This would be an excellent starting point for educators who
- are considering bringing the internet into their schools. The text is easy
- to read and caters to those who are unfamiliar with the Net. It even
- provides a glossary of terms for words used within the text. The answers
- provided are basic and reasonably short, and usually lead the reader to
- resources which deal with the topic in a more comprehensive fashion.
-
- This text would be an especially good resource for individuals
- who are writing proposals to government/school boards, or seeking
- government grants to implement the Net in local schools.
